Herbaceous plant from Southeast Asia, turmeric is used as spice in Indian, Middle East or Thai cuisine. You can recognize it from its peculiar colour, yellow and blonde. As a stain, it turns out to be really difficult to remove because of its pigment. Its smell is intense and rich.

What are the properties and benefits of turmeric?

Well-known for its therapeutic virtues, turmeric is useful for every part of the body; in ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine, this spice has become famous for digestive properties and for helping liver and pancreas to function properly. Among the curative properties of turmeric, we have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant functions that make it an ideal home remedy to strengthen our body against the attack from external agents such as viruses or bacteria. Not everyone knows that curcuma can support our body against menstrual irregularities. It’s also an effective help for arthritis pain. Turmeric is a real yellow gold full of benefic and curative properties waiting to be discovered.

How to use turmeric?

As well as with curry preparation, spiced chicken and tasty recipes, turmeric as we know it comes from dried turmeric rhizomes. Turmeric is at the foundation of masala, the famous spice mix, and it can be used to season vegetables while steaming or give flavour to fish. It can be a good alternative to saffron.
Among the most traditional practices, turmeric is used as a natural dye for Buddhist monks’ robes or bridal wedding dresses.
