Earl Grey is the most famous flavoured tea in the world, and we make ours the simplest way: organic black tea and bergamot essential oil, nothing else. The result is an intense yet light cup, with the bergamot scent reaching your nose first and then your palate, and a clean finish. Contains caffeine.

When to enjoy it
At five o’clock, with butter biscuits: that’s what it was made for. At breakfast, if you love citrus aromas. In the afternoon, hot or cold with a slice of lemon. It’s also the right tea for desserts: in a cake cream or an ice cream.

Plant stories
The name comes from Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey and British Prime Minister in the 1830s; there are many stories about how he got the recipe, and none is certain. Bergamot is a citrus fruit that grows almost only on the Ionian coast of Calabria, between Reggio and Locri: 90% of the world’s production comes from there. It’s the peel that gets pressed, not the juice: you need about 200 kilos of fruit for one kilo of essential oil.
