Frècc e Terrae, a picnic on the trail of rural civilization

For three hot August days, Barrea, a small medieval village perched on a rocky outcrop, became Abruzzo's food and wine capital.

It was in this beautiful setting from August 20 to 22 that the very first edition of Terrae which drew to the heart of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park winemakers, oenologists, food and wine experts and curious people from all over Italy. We at Wilden.herbals dove into this adventure by taking part in a special event: a walk organized by the tireless duo of Provisions, Martina Liverani and Valeria Carbone.

Frècc e Terrae, a picnic on the trail of rural civilization

Because we couldn’t miss

Terrae has been defined as a cultural wunderkammer: here food and wine intertwines with the major arts, creating an event where everyone can drink in a new culture where ancient knowledge is mixed with theater, music and video installations. During these three days the topics on everyone’s lips were those two elements that we like to think can never be missing from the table.

Wine was the protagonist (or pretext as the organizers like to say) with more than 20 winemakers bringing their products for tasting to introduce their territories near and far. Accompanying it in this first edition was bread, told through tasting counters, workshops and seminars.

Discovering an ancient farming civilization

The Barrea Valley is embraced by green beech forest and surrounded by high mountain peaks reaching up to 2249 meters above sea level. The gaze of those who enter it for the first time, however, cannot help but be captured by the lake: a sheet of water that reflects all this enchanting landscape. It might seem like an eternal place, standing still in time for centuries, yet during our itinerary we will discover that it was not always so.

The walk organized by Provisions, in fact, has designed a route that will take us to notice what and how many transformations from a naturalistic and cultural point of view have taken place in this area that has always been dedicated to peasant culture.

The experience: trekking and picnicking while sipping Frècc

The walk, which started right from the town of Barrea, led us through mule tracks and beech forests to the Jannanghera spring, where we refreshed body and soul through the tinkling sound of water on stones and with a tasty picnic.

What better time to enjoy our new Frècc No. 4 Hangover with bare feet in the freshest water surrounded by greenery? Here is the perfect way to reconnect with the healthy, wild soul within us that finds new strength and inspiration in these lands.

We look forward to returning for a second edition and embarking on new adventures.
